I would warmly like to welcome you all on this occasion of Turkish National Day. We are celebrating the 91st anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey. I would particularly like to thank all of you for being with us in this very special evening.
91 years ago, our ancestors founded Turkey from scratch after great sacrifices. Now, we have a competitive, robust and liberal economy, young and skilled population and functioning democratic institutions. I would hereby like to commemorate with great respect, those who contributed to this; Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, being first and foremost.
Turkey was established on the principle of “Peace at Home, Peace in the World” and will resolutely continue its efforts in this direction. We believe that our broad and constructive vision will not only guarantee our national interests but will also help achieve the common goals of humanity, especially in this most desirable period of peace.
Turkey and Qatar have excellent bilateral ties, drawing its strength from our shared history and culture. Our relationship is developing in all fields. Frequent reciprocal visits by the leaders and high level officials keep our relations vibrant. I hope this trend will gain further strength in the years to come.
In particular, Qatar was among the first countries that our President visited after he sworn in. Likewise, HH Emir visited Turkey after he took the office. Recently, H.H. Sheikha Moza was in Turkey as an honored guest of the President. H.H. Sheikha Moza visited and hailed our camps settled for the Syrian refugees.
In the economic sphere, I am particularly proud to see Turkish companies going from strength to strength in Qatar. Qatari investments in Turkey are also on the rise, in energy, banking, and tourism sectors. The groundbreaking ceremony of “Turkish Village” that was realized before our leaders crowned our developing economic relations.
In line with expanding political and economic relations, ties at grassroots level are also intensifying. Turkish culture attracts a growing deal of attention in Qatar and more Qataris are visiting Turkey every year. At a time our relations are gaining such momentum, we are very excited to celebrate 2015 as the Year of Culture between Turkey and Qatar.
We are keen to extend this cooperation by establishing educational and cultural institutions. In this framework, Turkish school in Doha will hopefully be operational in September 2015. We also hope to open up a Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Doha which will boost our relations in the cultural sphere.
I believe that our two brotherly countries, as bastions of stability in this region, will keep serving to promote security, peace and create interdependence in our region.
Before concluding my speech, I welcome you warmly once again and wish you a pleasant evening.
